CUFS Purchasing & Payables

Checks issued from the CUFS Electronic Procurement and Payment System are for payments to vendors for external purchases and non-payroll payments to individuals. Types of payments include travel and non-travel reimbursements, payments for goods and services already acquired or performed, and subscription and membership fees.

Human Resources Information System (HRIS)

Access to Human Resources Information System (HRIS) allows a user to view online a chronological history of position data, an employee’s personal details, benefits information, and payroll records. The following classes are offered about HRIS: HRIS Lookup for New Users, HRIS Query Class, and HRIS Deployment of Funding/Workflow.

In addition, the paper-based payroll procedure classes teach users to complete and process payroll and HRIS forms. These classes are offered: Payroll Graduate Student Procedures, Payroll Faculty Procedures, Payroll Temporary and Work-Study Student Procedures, and Payroll Research Procedures.

Office for Sponsored Research (OSR)

The Office for Sponsored Research (OSR) facilitates research at Northwestern by efficiently and effectively identifying funding sources, assisting in proposal development, reviewing and endorsing proposals, negotiating agreements, accepting and appropriating awards, interpreting guidelines, and promoting compliance with agency and University policies.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Office

The Sexual Harassment Prevention Office carries through Northwestern University’s commitment to providing its students, faculty, and staff with a working and learning environment free from sexual harassment and discrimination. Its director leads a high-energy, interactive training session for units, teams, or departments about the University’s policies, how to identify subtle forms of discrimination and harassment, and what to do if they occur.

Clinical Research Education

The Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences (NUCATS) Institute offers a variety of educational opportunities for faculty and staff who are interested in learning more about clinical research, including:

Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research and Regulatory Administration: Advance your career in clinical research with a graduate certificate in Clinical Research and Regulatory Administration. The four-course program focuses on the key concepts of clinical research and allows professionals to focus in one of two areas: regulatory affairs and administration or clinical trials design and conduct. Office for Research Integrity

The Office for Research Integrity offers the Research Administration Seminar, which provides an overview of the research administration process, roles and responsibilities, and compliance implications. Specifically, this seminar covers:

  • Roles and responsibilities of faculty and staff
  • Overview of research administration processes that link the different aspects of research administration
  • Regulatory fundamentals which form the foundation of research administration
  • Specific research administration topics, including effort reporting and cost sharing, and expectations related to fiscal administration
  • Dialogue about gaps in the understanding of research compliance at the institutional and individual levels
